India's Top Prospect Signs with the Sky Sport Breakers

More top international talent is heading the Sky Sport Breakers’ way with India’s top prospect signing a two-year development contract, and a club option on the third year, with the Auckland-based club.

Princepal Singh, a 2.06m or 6’9” Power Forward from Dera Baba Nank in Punjab, is a graduate of the NBA Global Academy in Canberra.

The 20-year-old is no stranger to the NBL, having participated at the Next Gen camp in 2019 as well as playing in the NBL1 competition with the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence. 

He appeared in several high-profile international basketball events in the NBA Academy program, including Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia 2018 and the 2018 NBA Global Camp.  

Singh also represented India in international competitions as part of the Indian Men’s Senior National Team.

In 2020, he became the first NBA Academy graduate to sign in the NBA G-League for California’s Ignite.

Singh was a member of the Sacramento Kings roster for the 2021 NBA Summer League and selected by the Stockton Kings in the 2021 NBA G-League draft.

The ambitious forward admits the proven pathway to the NBA through the Breakers is the reason he is packing up and moving away from California.

“The Breakers have shown with guys like RJ Hampton, Ousmane Dieng, and Hugo Besson that they are the premier team at developing players in the world,” he said. 

“I am really excited to join the team and continue my development under Dan Shamir.”

Breakers owner Matt Walsh says Singh’s arrival into camp will further solidify the Breakers as an elite destination in the world for global talent.

“Prince comes with experience from the NBA global academy and G-League Ignite,” says Walsh.

“He’s a very talented young man, one of the top prospects ever from India, and we’re excited to have him.”

With international travel opening up, Singh expects to join the Breakers in Australia at the end of the month.

The team is preparing for a December start to the NBL22 season with the team scheduled to return for 14 home games from February in New Zealand.
