The BNZ Breakers are thrilled to announce the marquee signing of star guard Dejan “DJ” Vasiljevic on a one-year deal, beginning with the NBL27 season.
Vasiljevic, a premier sharpshooter and a two-time NBL Champion (2022, 2023), joins the BNZ Breakers following a standout tenure with the Adelaide 36ers, where he served as a leader and co-captain.
He has established himself as one of the most accurate offensive threats in the NBL, and has suited up for the Australian Boomers national team. He is widely regarded as one of the NBL’s most lethal marksmen with a career three-point percentage consistently near 38%.
His arrival marks a significant milestone in the club’s recruitment strategy as they look to build upon the high-performance culture that recently delivered the inaugural NBL Ignite Cup win.
"DJ is a proven winner and a player who thrives under pressure, in big moments." says Dillon Boucher, BNZ Breakers President of Basketball Operations. "His ability to stretch the floor and his leadership perfectly align with the style of play we have established here in Auckland."
Vasiljevic’s pedigree is undeniable having averaged 14.9 points per game over his prolific NBL career. He brings a veteran presence and a championship mindset to the BNZ Breakers’ backcourt.
Statement from DJ Vasiljevic:
"I am incredibly excited to join the BNZ Breakers and become part of the whānau. This club has a prestigious history and with a clear vision for the future that I want to be a part of.”
The signing of Vasiljevic is a bold statement of intent for the BNZ Breakers as they build their roster which includes elite player Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Kiwi big man Sam Mennenga.
"Securing a marquee player of DJ’s calibre demonstrates that the BNZ Breakers are a premier destination for the best talent in the league," adds Marc Mitchell, Club Chairman and Owner. "We know our fans will embrace him as one of our own as we strive to compete for a Championship."
