After 72 hours at home, the BNZ Breakers packed their bags, basketball shoes, and their NBL27 ambitions again and have headed back acrossthe Tasman with sleeves rolled up ahead of a three-game road trip that seesthem take on the top three teams on the NBL ladder in eight days.
For the second time in less than three weeks, the Breakersare in Perth to face the third placed Wildcats on Saturday night, beforetravelling to Canberra and an IGNITE Cup match up against top of the tableSydney Kings on Wednesday, then wrapping up with a trip to Hobart and thesecond placed Tasmania JackJumpers on Sunday 18th.
BNZ Breakers President of Basketball Dillon Boucher saystravel is no stranger to the New Zealand club but is no excuse for anythingless than 100% commitment to every game, whether on the road or at home.
“Yes, travel is a huge factor in our season, but it has beensince the club first took tentative steps in the NBL and has not stopped uswinning four championships and is certainly not about to become an excuse as wechase a fifth this season.
“We prepare for it, we are ready for it, and we doeverything we can to mitigate the downside. In fact, we embrace it as abit of a superpower, a chance to build strong bonds within the team, cohesionon and off the floor,” said Boucher.
With a three-win two-loss record and fourth place on the NBLladder, BNZ Breakers centre Sam Mennenga is not daunted by the prospect oftaking on the current top three in a week, confident that the work the team isdoing on the practice floor will stand them in good stead this week.
“We respect every team in this league, results already show that no one is safe, any team can beat any time on a given night. Right now, our focus is on Perth and not looking further ahead, a bit cliched I know, but one game at a time. We feel we missed an opportunity here just a week or so back and as a group there is a determination to put that right on Saturday,” said Mennenga.
“We will scout Perth and prepare for what we think they willbring, but as has been the case all season, we are focusing on us first, makingsure we bring the best version of the BNZ Breakers from tip off, play the waywe know we can play. If we do that, we are confident results will comeour way, we back ourselves for sure.”
There is much interest in Perth and around the NBL whethernew Wildcats import Brandon Knight will play. The former NBA guardarrived in Australia a week ago and is tipped to suit up for the three and oneWildcats at RAC Arena, adding another piece of intrigue and NBA glitz to NBL27.
