More NBA Experience Heading the Way of the Sky Sport Breakers for NBL22

A player who Sean Marks called up to the Brooklyn Nets last season, and played nine games for the Cleveland Cavaliers this year, is the replacement for star Kiwi Tai Webster at the Sky Sport Breakers.

Combo Guard Jeremiah Martin, who has played 18 NBA games and joined the Atlanta Hawks for Summer League in August, is the fourth player in the Breakers roster with links to the NBA.

The Breakers already have former Detroit Pistons Point Guard Peyton Siva on their books, plus the exciting French phenoms Ousmane Dieng and Hugo Besson – both of whom are projected first-round picks in the NBA Draft next year.

It was Martin’s performances for the Nets in the NBA bubble last season which first caught the eye of Breakers Head Coach Dan Shamir.

“He had two very strong performances playing at point guard and did a lot of good things,” says Shamir.

“He’s a multi-dimensional player, a good defender, can defend multiple positions, can play with the ball and without the ball; that’s why he fits us.”

Last August, the 25-year-old had a career-high 24 points, six assists, and two rebounds for the Nets against the Orlando Magic.  He also claimed 20 points and four assists against the Boston Celtics.

However, perhaps the most intriguing aspect about the 1.91m American is that he adds another dimension to the Breakers’ roster simply because he is left-handed.

Martin, Siva, and Besson now complete the NBL’s three import quota for the Breakers meaning there is just one local spot open on the roster.

Coach Shamir is giving nothing away on how they will fill the final spot.

But you only have to look back to last season when he sprung an enormous surprise by plucking Danish international Rasmus Bach out of obscurity after discovering he had an Australian passport.

“Just getting players into Australia is very tough, and right now, we are in the dark as to who this final player will be,” says Shamir.

“But obviously we are going to fill it when the right time comes.”

The NBL season is scheduled to start on November 18.
