Gillespie granted release from BNZ Breakers
The BNZ Breakers have granted center Freddie Gillespie a release from the remainder of his NBL25 contract.
Gillespie has established himself as a game influencer in the NBL, leading the league in blocks per game.
His contributions in the paint, particularly on the defensive end of the floor, have helped the Breakers to a 7-3 record to open their campaign.
Gillespie’s release comes into immediate effect.
BNZ Breakers CEO Lisa Edser thanked Gillespie for his professionalism and positive influence in New Zealand.
"Freddie approached us and requested a release. While bittersweet, it was an opportunity that Freddie wanted to pursue and we support him. We look forward to watching his success in the future," she said.
"We thank Freddie for his contributions to the club on and off the court and wish him the best with his new team."
Gillespie extended his thanks to the Breakers for the opportunity.
"I’ve built great and lasting relationships with my teammates, the Breakers staff, and our incredible fans.
"I’m truly proud of everything we’ve accomplished together this season. As I look ahead, I’m excited to begin the next chapter of my journey."
The BNZ Breakers will fill the vacant roster spot before their next game against Illawarra Hawks on Thursday 28 November.
