Full circle moment for Wynyard in return to Breakers
Standing at 6’10”, the 26-year-old is no stranger to the Breakers having been part of the roster as a development player in 2014/15 when the club won their last NBL title.
Wynyard has become a well-known figure in New Zealand basketball, first representing the Tall Blacks at just 16 years of age.
He has recently returned to New Zealand after playing for the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese 3x3 competition.
It's been a whirlwind week for Wynyard, who had planned to spend the summer holidays on a break before receiving a call-up from the Breakers.
“I was at home relaxing with my family and got a call up saying they had a few issues sadly with guys going down with injury, and I thought what the heck I’ll come and give them a hand,” he said.
“Everything happens for a reason I believe and I’m going to keep riding the wave and see where it takes me. There’s a great group of guys here.
“It’s an amazing feeling being back. I remember being here as a DP [Development Player] and watching those old greats like Mike Vukona, Tom Abercrombie and CJ Bruton. It was amazing to be a part of and I’m so glad to be back here again.
“To be playing back in New Zealand, my home country, is awesome and I just want to bring my energy and help this team however I can.”
The BNZ Breakers are back in action at 7.30pm on Thursday night when they host Tasmania JackJumpers at Eventfinda Stadium on Auckland’s North Shore.
