The BNZ Breakers, alongside the wider New Zealand basketball community, are mourning the passing of Kevin Braswell at the age of just 46.

Kevin, known to many as ‘KB,’ made a mark on the Breakers and New Zealand basketball.

Arriving at the club in 2010, he featured in the club’s historic 2010-11 season, helping secure the side's first ever championship and winning the league's Sixth Man of the Year award.

His leadership and experience on the court were invaluable in laying the foundation for the sustained success that followed.

A fierce competitor and natural leader, Kevin transitioned seamlessly into coaching, continuing his influence on the game.

He went on to play in the NZNBL for the Southland Sharks before coaching the Wellington Saints to back-to-back titles - returning to the Breakers as head coach for the 2018-19 NBL season.

His passion for the sport and dedication to player development left a lasting impact on everyone who worked with him.

Most recently, Kevin had been coaching in Japan, where he served as an assistant before taking over as head coach of Utsunomiya Brex.

The BNZ Breakers whānau extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues around the world.

Rest in peace, KB.
