BNZ BREAKERS WIN THE NBL PRESEASON BLITZ
The BNZ Breakers have begun their preseason campaign by winning the 2025 CodeSports NBL Blitz tournament in Canberra, Australia. The tournament involves all 10 NBL teams.
The team secured the Loggins-Bruton Cup with a dominant performance, showcasing their potential for the upcoming Hungry Jack's NBL26 season.
Tonight, they overcame the Cairns Taipans by 94 to 75 . They dominated every quarter and showed talent across the squad.
Izaiah Brockington, a new import, was named Tournament MVP and received the Ray Borner Medal.
The BNZ Breakers finished at the top of the tournament standings thanks to a strong showing in both of their games.
Their first-up game was a commanding 109-101 win over the South East Melbourne Phoenix. The victory was a testament to the team's relentless effort and strategic execution. Game report here.
The CodeSports NBL Blitz employs a unique scoring system that rewards both winning and quarter-by-quarter performance, with teams earning 3 points for a game win, 1 point for each quarter won, and 0.5 points for a drawn quarter. This system emphasises consistency and a high level of play throughout the entire game, and the BNZ Breakers' ability to accumulate 13 points across all metrics was key to their success.
President of Basketball Operations Dillon Bouchers, “We thank Canberra and their fantastic fans who came out to support the tournament. The atmosphere was incredible, and the support from the local community was greatly appreciated by all the teams.”
The team will return from the CodeSports Blitz for a week of continued pre-season preparation in New Zealand, before embarking on a two-game tour to Japan, including playing against former BNZ Breakers coach Mody Maor and former player and coach Paul Henare at their Nagasaki Velca club.
With the Loggins-Bruton Cup secured, the BNZ Breakers are focused on the start of the regular season. Tickets are now on sale for the team's first home game at Spark Arena on Friday, 19 September, against the Brisbane Bullets.
Club Chairman Marc Mitchell said, "Our squad and coaching staff have been building something special. Winning this tournament is a great way to start NBL26, but we have a long way to go to reach our ultimate goal. We are excited for the journey ahead."
Fans can purchase tickets and get behind the BNZ Breakers as they begin their quest for the NBL26 championship.
