The BNZ Breakers are proud to announce the appointment of Troy Georgiu as the club’s new Chief Executive Officer. A seasoned executive with a 20-year legacy of success in the NBL, Georgiu joins the BNZ Breakers with the mandate to make the Club the NBL’s premier sporting organisation, on and off the court.
Georgiu will oversee all aspects of the Club’s business operations. Dillon Boucher MNZM is the President of Basketball Operations, overseeing all aspects of basketball and performance. His role remains unchanged.
Georgiu brings an unparalleled pedigree to Auckland. Starting with the Perth Wildcats in 2002, he served as Commercial Manager for ten years, driving the business to record heights, before leading the club as CEO from 2017 to 2022. Under his leadership, the Wildcats became a benchmark for both commercial profitability and on-court dominance.
BNZ Breakers Chairman Marc Mitchell said: “Troy is a world-class executive who understands the unique intersection of community, brand, and winning.
"Perth are recognised as the most successful franchise in NBL history, and Troy was a big part of that success. After conducting a global search Troy emerged as our first choice and we are excited to bring in a proven executive of his calibre.
"Our goal is to make the Breakers the top sporting brand in New Zealand, and Troy is the leader to help us get there.”
Incoming CEO Troy Georgiu, said: "As a long-term fan and executive in the NBL, I know how important the BNZ Breakers are to basketball in New Zealand, and beyond.”
"I am honoured to lead this next chapter for a club that is a cornerstone of New Zealand sport. My focus is on building a front office that is as high performing as our team on the court.
"We want to grow the club, engage our fans more deeply, and ensure the BNZ Breakers compete for Championships every year.”
Georgiu, who has spent the last three years as a specialist business advisor, will officially commence his duties effective immediately.
